The Bobiverse Trilogy by Dennis E. Taylor includes We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse Book 1), For We Are Many,
(Bobiverse Book 2) and All These Worlds (Bobiverse Book 3). The trilogy is a fun series, especially if you appreciate the engineering thought process, artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality, and space exploration. I found myself laughing and commiserating with the protagonist, Bob, (as an engineer myself) on many occasions. The author was spot on with some of the real-world engineering experiences and problems. Taylor also does a great job with helping the audience think about the “consciousness” of an AI who thinks, feels, sees, and dies, just as you or I would. One thing that was lacking in the books: more women and underrepresented minorities. Bob is a cis, white, male engineer who is traveling as an AI throughout the innumerable galaxies. In books 2 and 3, the author adds female and minority characters but they are not as central to the book as Bob is. Despite this shortcoming, I really enjoyed the trilogy and hope you will too.
